Gone But Not Forgotten

"Madison"
Feb. 10, 2000-March 7, 2004

" Madison was everything that anyone has ever wanted in a loyal companion.  She was intelligent, attentive and ever ready to retrieve. Although she was a wonderful mother, she always had a tennis ball handy - even in her whelping box!  I hope Heaven is full of tennis balls and water to throw them in.  We will miss her ."
"Duke"

 - July 6, 2005

"Duke was my constant companion as I made my daily rounds.  He wasn't a purebred, in fact most would call him a mutt.  Duke was 15 and we were together when he left this world.  Duke was a good old boy and he will be missed each day I step out the door.  Duke was "The King" in our family.  Rest well my dear friend."

YOU'LL CRY

I knew the answer, but I just couldn't say I know what you'll do,
you'll cry.  He's still wagging his tail, but you know He's just too old,
But you imagine the worst, and you cry.
Then the vet did the test, and test told the tale,
You know what it means, and you cry.
Now we could prolong his life briefly, or spare him the pain,
We make our decision, and you cry.
We give him a blanket, but He chooses the cool floor
His tail's still wagging as He lies, and you cry.
You give him a biscuit, and He gobbles it down,
And He looks for another, and you cry.
Then the time comes, to say our good byes
And we hug him so hard, and we cry.
Duke gets his last needle, and he breathes his last breath,
He's off to see Madison, and you cry, (as do I)
You know He's in heaven and it should be a comfort
And it will be, but it's not now, and you cry
Then you cry, and you cry, and you cry and you cry
Til you're all out of tears, then you cry.
Friends and family call, you want to tell how and why
But all you can say is "He's gone", and you cry.
You'll awake the next morning, thinking it was all a bad dream
Then the truth will set in and you'll cry.
You won't want to get up, but the dogs need to be fed
You'll fix one less bowl, and you'll cry.
You'll spot his favorite toy, a chewed on Teddy Bear,
You'll bend down to pick it up, and you'll cry.
Then you'll cry all day long, and the day after that
And the day after that, you'll cry too.
You know you can't recover, your heart will never mend,
But you do, and it does, and you cry.
Then the hole in your heart made by Madison, made deeper by Duke,
Will slowly start to heal, and you'll cry.
You will tell a few stories, of what a good boy He was.
You'll remember something funny He did and you'll laugh…
and then you'll cry.

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.  When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.  Thise are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.  There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.  All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.  The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when suddenly one stops and looks into the distance.  His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver.  Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have just been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.  The happy kisses rain on your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.   Then you cross the Bridge together.
